SEOUL, South Korea: The 2024 International Symposium on Dental Hygiene (ISDH), held under the auspices of the International Federation of Dental Hygienists (IFDH), will take place from 11 to 13 July at the COEX conference and exhibition centre in Seoul. ISDH 2024, the second of its kind to be held in Asia, will feature the four themes of collaboration, optimisation, reimagination and equality (CORE). Dental hygienists from 32 countries will come together for three days to participate in the in-depth academic symposium on dental hygiene.

ISDH took place for the first time in Oslo in Norway in 1986. ISDH 2024 will be the 14th iteration of the event and will be hosted by the Korean Dental Hygienists Association in collaboration with the IFDH. The organising committee is putting considerable effort into welcoming dental hygienists from around the world in July. This symposium offers a platform for dental professionals to engage with the latest research, practices and global perspectives in the field of dental hygiene.

The call for abstracts yielded excellent results, and 262 were submitted during the acceptance period. Invitations were extended to 18 speakers from seven countries, and there will be two plenary lectures: “Revolutionising dental hygiene: A central focus for oral and general health”, to be presented by Dr JoAnn Gurenlian from the US; and “A behavioral economic approach to dental hygiene: Redesigning oral health interventions”, to be presented by Prof. Nam-Hee Kim from South Korea.

In addition to the scientific programme, there will be a varied social programme to give dental hygienists from around the world to opportunity to come together and network. On the first evening of the symposium, a welcome reception will take place in the COEX auditorium lobby, which has a panoramic view of the Bongeunsa Temple, which was founded in 794 ce and is a significant cultural and spiritual landmark embodying centuries of Buddhist tradition. On the second evening, a gala dinner will be held at the newly opened addition to COEX, The Platz. The social programme ticket is available as an optional add-on during registration online.
